Info

Required Infomation

Currency
  • The official currency in Prague is the Czech koruna (abbreviated CZK or Kč).
  • Coins come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Kč; banknotes in 100, 200, 500, 1 000, 2 000 and 5 000 Kč.
  • Although some shops, restaurants or tourist-oriented places may accept Euros (or offer a “pay in EUR” option), this is not common and usually comes with an unfavorable exchange rate — so it’s recommended to use crowns (or pay by card).
  • Credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard etc.) are widely accepted, especially at hotels, restaurants, bigger shops and many services.
Power Outlets
  • In Prague (and Czechia generally), the standard voltage is 230 V and frequency 50 Hz
  • The common plug/socket types are Type C (two-round-pin) and Type E (two-round-pin + earth pin hole).
  • If you come from a country using 220–240 V and European-style plugs (or adaptors), your appliances should work fine.
Visa and Entry
  • It is allowed to bring personal medication into Czechia — but if the medicines contain narcotic or psychotropic substances (controlled substances), you must carry a prescription or a doctor’s letter that explains you need them for personal use.
  • The amount should correspond to the duration of your stay.
  • In general: bring medication in original packaging + prescription/doctor’s note if relevant.
  • Over-the-counter medicines are available at pharmacies (lékárna).
Air Travel
  • The international airport serving Prague is Václav Havel Airport Prague (often “Prague Airport”, code PRG).
  • From the airport to city centre you can use public transport buses (and then metro), or taxis/Ride-sharing (e.g. services like those operating in Prague) or airport bus + metro — convenient and well connected.
Public Transportation
  • Prague has an efficient, well-integrated public transport system: metro (underground), trams and buses.
  • A single standard ticket costs around 40 Kč (for a short ride / 30 min) and a longer ticket (or a 90-minute/transfer ticket) costs about 120 Kč
  • For longer stays you can get multi-day or monthly passes; public transport covers most areas including out-skirts and connects from airport into city.
  • Taxis and ride-sharing are available — but as with many European cities, public transport + walking is quite convenient.
Medications
  • Tap water in Prague is safe to drink.
  • Healthcare standards are good; if you have an EU (or relevant) health-insurance card (e.g. EHIC), emergency care is usually available to EU citizens under reciprocal agreements.
  • If you're carrying prescription medication (especially controlled substances), carry prescription or doctor’s letter to avoid problems.
